Biscuits by Jill Smith


  • 1-1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2-1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 cup cold butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or mix a shallow cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice)


  1. Preheat Oven to 425F
  2. Mix together in a bowl: all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar (optional)
  3. Cut in cold butter
  4. Add fluffing (buttermilk) with a fork
  5. Combine to form a lump and roll out to 1 inch thickness and cut into circles
  6. bake for 12 minutes - the biscuits should be golden on top
  7. Enjoy with your favourite jam or jelly and even whipped cream on top
  8. *Optional - sprinkle in grated cheese for savoury biscuits
